A night in HELL with YAD

On Saturday 31st October, Sydney YAD are holding their first ever Halloween event titled "A night in HELL with YAD". Held on the night of Halloween, this event is an
opportunity for all the youth from Sydney YAD to get to know each other better through fundraising for IBYC 2011 and learning about the Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva and the
hells in Buddhism. This will be a night you won’t forget…!

As a participant at "‘A night in HELL with YAD"’, it is mandatory that you turn up in a Halloween style costume. In your costumes, you will be going out as a group into the

City of Sydney to fundraise from the public. After you've raised all the funds you possibly can (we are aiming to raise $5000!), all participants will be treated to a cocktail

and canapés reception back at IBAA Sydney. This will be the perfect opportunity for you to mingle with your fellow YAD members and really get to know them.

Dinner will be followed by a special talk by Venerable Ru Yi about the Ksitigarbha Sutra and then the night will conclude with the presentation of prizes.

Tickets are only $5 if you purchase them before this Saturday 24th October and they can be purchased from your YAD representative (see Information Sheet for who that is).

Don't forget there are $100 gift vouchers to be given away to the "BEST COSTUME" and "BEST HANDMADE COSTUME" so be creative and get those scary faces on!

We really look forward to seeing you there!

2009 HSC Study Camp

BLIA-Sydney YAD 2 organised the 2009 HSC Camp for the year 12 students of 2009 at Parramatta Vihara during the Labour Day long weekend, 3rd – 5th of October. They organised this Camp to help the students concentrate on their studies in a calm studying environment. There were 12 participants who came to the HSC Camp with their study gear ready to begin their intensive study weekend. Some even came with luggage overloaded with textbooks, study notes and stationary. Over three days, the participants have engaged in their studies for the upcoming HSC exam which will determine their university entrance for 2010.

The first day included a motivation workshop held by Ariya talking about accepting the negative and positive views of study, distinguishing the differences between happiness and pleasure and how to be effectively motivated and study effectively.

They endured countless hours of silent study which must have pushed them to the point of insanity. Halfway through the second day, they insisted on staying back to increase their studying hours in a tranquil environment. However, everyone indulged themselves with pizza that night, a perfect end to a productive day of studying.

Day 3 included an interactive careers talk by members of YAD 1 to provide information on possible areas of employment after and/or during university.

3rd of October marks the first day of HSC Camp, 12 students sacrificed their weekend in an attempt to embark on a journey to attain wisdom.  The overall experience will definitely have benefitted them one way or another.  So if you know anyone who is still in High School, be sure to let them know about next year’s HSC Camp!
