The structure of each Sydney YAD has grown and changed over the years to cater for the needs of its members as well as committee. The structure adopted by each YAD is also dependent on many factors such as the size, age and life stage. Below is a description of the various roles within Sydney YAD.
Guiding Reverend
Every YAD is assigned a guiding reverend who is the connection with the temple. Guiding reverends typically will attend YAD meetings, provide guidance on various issues and be responsible for teaching Dharma when possible.
Advisors
YAD advisors are typically those past committee members who have much experience and knowledge to share with the YAD committee. They are responsible for ensuring that the YAD committee are taken care of in terms of skills training, committee health and spiritual health. Advisors are typically not involved with the daily operation of YAD events however they are obliged to participate and help out where required.
Executive Committee
The executive committee is typically made up of the President, Vice President(s), Treasurer and Secretary. They have more responsibility and consequently more power than other committee members. One of the main responsibilities is liaising with the temple and BLIA y attending the BLIA meetings.
Committee
Committee roles and positions will vary depending on the needs of the committee. Various methods for assigning roles exist of which two are:
- At each AGM election, roles are voted on and successful candidates fulfill that role throughout the year for each event.
- At each AGM election, candidates are voted into the committee and the roles are decided on a per-event basis.
Active Members
Active members are members that actively attend YAD events and also temple events. They typically feel an affinity with YAD and/or the temple and will usually be chosen for roles that entail responsibility such as being a group leader at a camp. They are also typically chosen to be candidates to run for committee positions.
Members
Members are those that have paid membership fees.
